Project Description
The Search glass tower
Omaha, Nebraska
Artist: Jun Kaneko
The Search glass tower in Omaha NE is located as a standalone installation at the centre of a large roundabout in front of the Fred & Pamela Buffet Cancer Centre. The artwork in front of the major medical centre that specialises in cancer treatments was financed by anonymous donations and has been extended by a major logistical effort directly on site since 24 April 2017. With its positive universal impact on people, it creates a direct link to the Fred & Pamela Buffet Cancer Centre.
The tower of Japanese artist Jun Kaneko has a twelve-cornered floor plan and rises 10 floors or glass panels one above the other to a height of around 23 metres. This is a steel and glass construction, which has been placed on a two metre high base and has a total diameter of approx. two metres.
The finely cut, mouth-blown Lambertsglas® has been bonded on to an opaque glass substrate (laminated safety glass) and is backlit from the inside with special LEDs.
