Project Description

Assumption High School

Louisville, Kentucky

Artist: Guy Kemper

In 2021, artist Guy Kemper designed this 9-part gwindow for Assumption High School in Louisville, Kentucky. The artwork is located prominently inside the school’s lobby where it radiates in the natural daylight. At night, it is lit from behind which makes it widely visible through the building’s façade.

Behind the 13’ tall glass panels, the schools’ chapel is located on the second floor – here the students are face to face with the artwork and have the possibility to view it up close.

To translate Guy Kemper’s design into glass, our artisans delicately acid etched mouth blown flashed glass and then airbrushed it with several layers of glass paint, which were fired into the glass. Certain elements were then sandblasted. After the painting process was completed, the mouth blown glass was laminated to safety glass panels, which meet all requirements for a fall-proof façade.
