Company history

1866

Company was found by Wilhelm Derix I (1837-1919) in Goch/Niederrhein

1908

Received award – by appointment to the Pope and of the Silvesterorden to Wilhelm Derix by Pope Pius X

1945

Set up restoration workshop at Cologne Cathedral

1946

Wilhelm Derix opened Studio in Rottweil

1952

Subsidary in Wiesbaden.

Work carried out for a number of Artists: Ackermann, Johannes Beek, Albert Bickle, Otto Dix, Wilhelm Geyer, Prof Grieshaber, Ida Kerkovius, Emil Kiess, Georg Meistermann, Jochem Poensgen, Ludwig Schaffrath, Johannes Schreiter.

Development of the concrete type technique

1974

Move of the Wiesbaden subsidiary to new premises in Taunusstein; Wilhelm Derix IV heads the company.

During the 90`s more contact to international artists like Leifur Breidfjörd, Brian Clarke, John Clark, Graham Jones, Patrick Reyntiens.

1991

Company 125year jubilee celebrated with a new Art Glass Gallery with changing exhibits of contemporary national and international glass artists.

1999

Setting up office in USA, founding DERIX GLASS ART Consultants

2008

Today the company is headed by Wilhelm Derix (IV).

Supported by his sister, Ursula Rothfuss and his daughter Barbara Derix. Brigitte Derix, his wife, looks after the artists culinary delights whilst they are working at the Studio. Artists stay in apartments at the Studio.

Approximately 35 experts, 5 glazier- and painter Mastercraftsmen as well as our apprentices look after the best realization of glass windows, light ceilings, glass sculptures and screens in whatever technique required and possible.

Two spray booths, two etching lines and sandblasting chambers are available.
